17th Annual RDO Caters Taters for Charity Breaks Records

17th Annual RDO Caters Taters for Charity Breaks Records

FARGO, N.D. – (November 17, 2016) – RDO Equipment Co. and R.D. Offutt Company’s annual charity potato luncheon, RDO Caters Taters for Charity, raised a record-breaking $70,843 for benefiting charity, YWCA Cass Clay. The event also served a record number of guests, selling roughly 3,150 tickets through its dine-in and take-out options. 100% of funds raised are going to YWCA Cass Clay’s Emergency Shelter.

Impacting the Community
YWCA Cass Clay operates the largest Emergency Shelter for women and children escaping domestic violence, homelessness, and other crisis situations in North Dakota and Northwest Minnesota. In 2015, the shelter housed 1,484 women and children, more than ever in its 110-years history in the F-M community.

“We could not be more grateful for RDO’s leadership in organizing an event that year-after-year strengthens the impact of nonprofit organizations in our community,” Erin Prochnow, YWCA Cass Clay CEO said. “RDO Caters Taters has established new reach for our mission and the impact is significant. Support of YWCA this year means women and children will have safety, advocacy, and resources they need to transform their lives.”

Food, Fun, and Funds
The 17th annual RDO Caters Taters kicked off at 10:45 a.m. with a special Facebook live sneak peek of the dining room serving line by Amy Iler of KFGO’s “It Takes 2 with Jack and Amy.” Televisions throughout the event area featured a social media stream of guests’ Instagram photos and tweets using hashtag #RDOCatersTaters. For the second year in a row, a photo booth was set up to further encourage fun and photo sharing.

Lunch was served in the dining room from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and take-out lunches, both pre-orders and walk-ins, were available for guests on-the-go. Guests were served the famous RDO Caters Taters “pound-tato” – a full one-pound baked potato – with choice of toppings, a beverage, and dessert.

Every year, RDO Caters Taters organizes a raffle at the event and silent auction for employees to raise additional funds for the benefiting charity. This year’s raffle raised more than $17,000, 100% of which is donated to YWCA Cass Clay.

A History of Making a Difference
Throughout its 17 years, RDO Caters Taters has raised more than $500,000 for local charities including American Cancer Society, Make-A-Wish of North Dakota, Hospice of the Red River Valley, Sanford Children’s Hospital, Special Olympics North Dakota, Project Ignite Light, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Anne Carlsen Center – Fargo, and most recently, YWCA Cass Clay.

The event was formed as a challenge from RDO Leadership to the company’s Community Responsibility Committee to hold a function that gives back to the community. As the largest potato grower in North America, R.D. Offutt Company provides the Norkotah potatoes served every year. The potatoes travel 420 miles from the company’s farm in O’Neill, Nebraska to the event in Fargo.

Several partner businesses, both local and national, join the effort and donate products, materials, and other goods and services to make RDO Caters Taters possible every year. With the added support of the Fargo, Moorhead, and West Fargo communities, numerous volunteers, and RDO management, the event has grown every year and continues to strive to make an impact on local charitable organizations.
