Brawley Team Claims First Place Honors at Chili Cook Off
Every year, the Brawley community celebrates the Cattle Call – a week of festivities sponsored by the Brawley Chamber of Commerce. One of these festivities is the Chili Cook Off and for the first time, the RDO Water team decided to enter.
The contest had two components – the obvious, very important chili tasting portion – but also a booth display.
The Brawley team (with some help from RDO Equipment Co. team members in Imperial) decided on a “Wanted: Dead or Alive” theme, featuring team members on Wanted posters.
The first award presented was Best in Show, which went to the Brawley team for their booth display. Then came the all-important Grand Prize Chili content winner, who would receive $1000 and bragging rights for a year.
The Brawley team – having never entered – walked away with the Grand Prize! When interviewed by the local paper, they said they used the competition as a fun team-building opportunity and had a lot of fun while participating.
They donated their prize earnings to the Burn Institute which funds burn research and treatment for adults and children each year.
Ernesto Beltran, Regional Sales Manager, commented, “When we decided to join this event, we thought this was going to be a team building event, but one of our Core Values is ‘Play to Win’ so we decided to go full throttle. It was a team effort.”
