Checking In With Chandler – One Year Later
January 29, 2016 was a cool, sunny day in Arizona. Just outside the city of Chandler, along Interstate 10, a vacant 11-acre lot began to undergo a complete transformation. Team members from the Southwest Construction region of RDO Equipment Co. gathered for an informal groundbreaking ceremony at the site of the company’s newest store. Over the next several months, this space would become the second RDO Equipment Co. store in the Phoenix area.
Fast forward to today, a year from when shovels first hit the dirt, and the new RDO Equipment Co. – Chandler store is open and fully-operational. The 31,300+ square-foot facility is located on the Gila River Indian Community, in the Lone Butte Industrial Park, and focused on selling and supporting John Deere and Hitachi construction equipment. Featuring a 12-bay service shop, 11,000 square-foot parts warehouse and mezzanine, and 3,100 square-foot retail floor area, the new store is poised to meet the growing demands of the Phoenix metro area and better serve RDO Equipment Co. customers.
As with each new RDO Equipment Co. store, several unique features and design choices were included in the Chandler store. Special cooling equipment, including swamp coolers and fan systems were chosen to handle the extreme Arizona heat. With average summer highs in the Phoenix metro consistently breaking the 100-degrees Fahrenheit barrier, this will be especially imperative as the team of Service Technicians faces its first summer with a shop full of machines needing their expertise and care.
Along with unique aspects, the Chandler store balances numerous hallmarks found in all RDO Equipment Co. buildings. These include LED lighting throughout, and several features in the service shop, such as overhead doors with full-view glazing panels to allow maximum natural light, a drive-through, open air wash bay, and four, 10-ton overhead cranes.
RDO Equipment Co. – Chandler officially opened for business in September and, in October, the team celebrated the new store with a grand opening event. The day included a customer luncheon, equipment demos, and ceremonial blessing of the site by the Gila River Indian Community. Nearly 400 customers, community members, and manufacturing partners attended the grand opening celebration.
In addition to the progression of the site into a full store, the team at RDO Equipment Co. in Chandler saw exciting and significant growth over the past year as well. The store is led by Kenneth Franklin, who was named Store Manager in September 2016. At the time of the store’s grand opening, the Chandler team was comprised of 26 members – half of them new to RDO Equipment Co. At the close of the year, the team had grown by one for a total of 27 team members; a number Franklin says is ideal going into the store’s first full year.
Even though the Chandler store has been open now for several months and the days are, as one might say, “business as usual,” Dennis Howard, Vice President of the Southwest Construction region of RDO Equipment Co. says there’s continued energy around the store and with the team.
“We’re enjoying the opportunity to build relationships with new customers and strengthen relationships with existing ones,” he said. “RDO Equipment Co. treats all members of the community as stakeholders in the business and we’re excited to be a great partner to the entire Chandler, Phoenix, and Gila River communities.”
