RDO Equipment Co., Local Ag Businesses, and Friends Harvest Farmer's Corn Crop
Posted 12/15/2009 —An RDO Equipment Co. customer near Aberdeen, S.D. had recently lost his wife to cancer. He also had multiple fields full of corn that needed to be harvested. That's when several neighborhood friends and businesses stepped in and arranged to help with the harvest - including RDO Equipment Co. in Aberdeen.
Matt Grove, Aberdeen Account Manager, and Todd Peterson, Core Accounts Account Manager, took the lead on getting equipment lined up. They arranged a JD 9870 combine with a 612C Corn Head equipped with Row Sense. They also lined up an 8345RT tractor and Grain Cart from the Aberdeen store. The equipment was operated for two days by RDO Equipment Co. employees using different shifts.
On the second day of harvest, RDO Equipment Co. provided an evening dinner for all of the workers. Terry Lacher, Aberdeen Parts Manager, and Warren Heitz, Aberdeen Office Administrator, brought a sack dinner for many of the operators, and then went over to the Aberdeen-area grain elevator where many of the trucks were waiting in line for several hours to be unloaded, and handed out dinner to the drivers waiting in line.
"When we were approached to help out, we were more than willing. This is what being a neighbor and positive community presence is all about. When a customer is in need, you pitch in. All of the RDO Equipment Co. employees involved were living the concept of 'Building a customer for life,'" said Evan Fonder, Regional Sales Manager.
