Construction Update: January Progress of RDO Equipment Co. in Dayton, MN

Construction Update: January Progress of RDO Equipment Co. in Dayton, MN

21 Jan 2020 Read time: 3 min

Construction at the new RDO Equipment Co. store in Dayton is progressing on schedule, even amidst late December snow and brisk January temperatures. In fact, the exterior brick used on the store is a special, mortarless style that can be efficiently installed in winter conditions and still keeps with the architectural design and look of every RDO store.

Work was furthered by December’s completion of the exterior building enclosure, allowing several interior tasks to be accomplished in January, including the shop slab’s final pour, interior metal stud framing, and the start of drywall. Plumbing, mechanical, and electrical concealed rough-ins will be completed by month-end, while tasks including decorative metal wall panel installation and overhead door installation began in January.

Looking ahead, exterior wall insulation is in progress, preparing for the next milestone progress point of 2020 – the completion of drywall next month.

While it’s clear to see there’s plenty of work happening on the building itself, a key piece of the project puzzle still continues to be building the RDO Dayton team, according to John Weber, General Manager.

“While we have existing team members who will relocate from our Bloomington and Burnsville locations to work in the Dayton store, we have career opportunities to bring in new team members as well,” he said. Positions in parts, service, and support are all available to view on the RDO Careers page.

Further building excitement, John took a small group of team members, slated to move to Dayton, to tour the site last month. Tracy Haas, a Sales Coordinator who participated in the visit and is relocating to Dayton, said, “Visiting the Dayton facility and seeing the progress firsthand was amazing. Bringing the Dayton team together for this outing was the start of an exciting journey together that I am truly looking forward to!”

Kelly Gress, Vice President of RDO’s Midwest Construction-East region, echoed the importance of the team-building process, saying, “As we move closer to our open date this summer, it’s crucial we have a seamless experience for customers. As much as we’re focusing on building the store, John’s efforts to build the Dayton team are just as important so that we’re ready to support customers when we officially open, which happens to be during their busiest time of the year.”

Upon completion, the Dayton store will be approximately 45,000 square-feet, making it RDO’s largest construction-focused store in Minnesota. A unique design will allow the RDO team to better meet the business needs of customers for all three of its major manufacturing partners, Vermeer, Topcon, and John Deere. Because several customers do business with more than one manufacturer’s equipment, the efficient layout creates an opportunity for customers to get the equipment, parts, and service they need, all in one convenient location.

Speaking of location, the store is adjacent to Interstate 94 and the 610 interchange, an ideal complement to RDO’s existing business on the south side of the Twin Cities and key to its mission of better-supporting customers who work across the entire metro.

The Dayton store is scheduled to open in the summer of 2020. Watch for more construction updates and follow RDO on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitter to see additional photos, videos, and special progress news.
