Richard Hruska, Mankato Service Technician, retired in June after 41 years of service with RDO Equipment Co.
Richard first pursued his career in the equipment industry by spending summers working as a field mechanic for Green Giant. He attended what is now South Central College in Mankato and spent two years working for a John Deere dealer in Northfield before joining the team in Mankato, where he’s worked ever since.
Looking back on his career, what stands out to Richard most is how much technology has become a crucial part of equipment.
“Machines were pretty simple to work on when I first started,” he said. “Back then, I didn’t think a laptop was ever going to be one of my major tools.”
Although he’s ready to say goodbye to the physical demands of the job after more than four decades, Richard said he’ll miss his customers—some of whom he got to know well over the years—and his teammates.
“Richard is probably one of the most routine and consistent Service Technicians that I have ever worked with,” said Kerri Courrier, Aftermarket Manager. “I always joke that I could set my clock around him. We’re going to miss his knowledge and his quick wit around the store.”
Richard was a regular volunteer to represent RDO and drive equipment in the North Mankato Fun Days Parade, where he was often joined by his daughter and grandkids to throw candy to spectators.
An avid camper, Richard is hopeful he’ll be able to spend more time visiting Minnesota’s state parks soon, but in the meantime, he’s got plenty of projects around the house to keep busy.
