Dennis Howard talks with Vice President of Construction and Integrated Controls Adam Gilbertson about “Build Montana”, a public-private partnership to create pathways to successful construction careers. “In 2019, we had our MEDA meeting centered around workforce development,” Adam explained. “The biggest problem all the dealers have in Montana is finding talented people to do the work. It's a common theme around the country.”
In fact, Adam said he heard contractors talk about this same problem at Montana Contractors Association’s meeting in Helena, Montana, in January of 2020. So that’s when he and others decided to do something about it. Winner of the 2022 Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) National Chapter Workforce Development Award, Montana Contractors Association’s Build Montana program has engaged students in machine control, safety, and more.
Recently, the Build Montana program has created more positive experiences for high school students including Billings high school students learning about machines through John Deere University and expanding to Missoula Public Schools this January.
