End 2020 On a Positive Note With 9 Good News Stories

Posted on

With everything this year dished out, it would be pretty easy to end December on a dim note and just wish away 2020 altogether. But a lot of good happened.

While pandemic-fueled doom and gloom news seemed to dominate television, websites, and social media, plenty of positive stories broke through the clutter – stories of businesses giving back, communities rallying together, and people simply being kind to one another. And because of our customers, team members, and communities, we at RDO Equipment Co. had plenty of positive stories of our own to share.

Join us in ending 2020 on a positive note with nine of our best good news stories from around the company.

#1 – RDO Celebrates 50 Years of Women in National FFA Organization
Five years after the National FFA (Future Farmers of America) was founded, blue corduroy jackets were introduced as the official dress. Each year, local FFA Foundations provide hundreds of blue jackets to members. In honor of 2020 being 50 years since women were officially accepted as members in FFA, two RDO groups partnered with their state FFA Foundations to provide blue jackets to female members.

#2 – RDO Teams Offer Help after Oregon Floods
The COVID-19 pandemic wasn’t the only tragic event of 2020. Earlier in the year, a combination of heavy rainfall and rapid snowmelt in the Pacific Northwest resulted in flooding throughout the region.

Find out how one RDO team member rallied others and came to the aid of those affected.

#3 – Ongoing Need for Masks Prompts Several RDO Efforts
One of the earliest, greatest, and ongoing needs for many throughout the pandemic? Face masks. In three unique efforts, RDO team members helped get face masks to those who needed them most.

In Montana, all five stores teamed up with other John Deere dealers to collect masks.

A team member in Portland put her talents to use, sewing masks and recruiting others to help.

In response to the Franklin County Emergency Management request, RDO’s Northwest Agriculture region delivered masks to essential agriculture workers.

#4 – Rapid City Team Steps Up When Need is Great
The Rapid City Parks and Recreation department had a challenge. Facing a labor shortage because of COVID-19, two local cemeteries were in need of basic maintenance.

Watch how RDO stepped in to help and see even more about how the John Deere lawnmowers handled thick, tall grass that hadn’t been mowed all year.

#5 – Customers Come Together for Tree Care-Themed Birthday Party

RDO customers are special – and they’re more than customers, they become friends and family to the teams who support their business. This was perhaps most evident for a Eugene/Portland Sales Manager.

Find out what happened when his request for an equipment parade for his son’s birthday was met with an overwhelming response.

#6 – Four Team Members, Countless Lessons, and What Can Be Learned in 150 Years
When longtime team members retire, it’s bittersweet, yet exciting for everyone. When four of them do it within weeks of each other…well, that’s not something that happens often, if ever.

Read how RDO’s Mankato, MN team stepped in to celebrate the retirements of four longtime team members and stepped up to ensure a seamless transition for customers.

#7 – Minot Volunteers Dig In at Community Garden
The pandemic has impacted both the needs of community-focused organizations, like food pantries, and the ability of volunteers to get out and help.

Here’s how, in Minot, those two challenges were overcome by team members ready to roll up their sleeves and work hard to help.

#8 – RDO Teams Partner with Ronald McDonald House to Help Families in Need
“What can we do to help?”

That question sparked one effort that snowballed into another and helped numerous families at the Ronald McDonald House in Riverside, CA.

#9 – New Braunfels Team Makes 900-Pound Food Bank Donation
Across the country, food banks have been one charitable organization heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Seeing this continuous need in the New Braunfels community, a team member proposed a food drive.

A friendly competition ensued and the result? Read and find out.

In a year filled with cancelations and quarantines, handwashing and hand sanitizer, it’s perhaps more important than even to reflect on all the bright spots that still shined through. If you, your company, or your community have a great story from 2020, please share it with us on social media.
