Team Member Day in the Life – RDO Vermeer Account Manager, Dave Steege

Dave Steege worked for 11 years in the automotive industry, first as a technician, and then moving on to other service-related roles. But back in 2013, he decided to look for something different and what he hoped to find, was a rewarding career.

“I loved my job, but I had reached what I felt was my potential at my current employer,” Dave said. He learned of a sales role at RDO Equipment Co., a company he had never heard of before.

“I started to do a lot of research about the company, and specifically the Core Values. When I learned about the family-feel, the owners, the guiding values of the business, I became positive this was where I needed to be.”

Dave serves as the recycling Account Manager for the RDO Vermeer stores in Northern California. He’s based out of the Sacramento store but his territory covers much further.

Dave recently shared a behind-the-scenes look at his job and equipment solutions he provides when he took over the RDO Instagram account. From product demos to late-night customer dinners, Dave is clear that in this job, not every day is the same. But something that is a constant? His passion for what he does.

“There are few people that can truly say they love what they do, but honestly I get up every day excited to go sell yellow iron for a company I trust and a brand I believe in.”

Good morning! My name Is David Steege and I have been with RDO Equipment Co. almost 5 years. I am the recycling account manager for Northern California and am based out of our Sacramento store. I spent the first 11 years of my career in the automotive service industry as a technician and other service department roles. Having a technical background allows me to better understand not only the service needs of the machine, but of the customer as well.⠀ -----⠀ When I was applying for this job, I researched RDO Equipment Co. and what the company stood for. Product demonstrations are a large part of what we do every day. With iron this big, we are fortunate enough not to have to sell out of a catalog.⠀ -----⠀ The new HG6000 features a more aggressive feed roller and updated full hard-faced mill so you spend more time grinding and less time maintaining. The high production from this midsized unit showed the customer what they can look forward to in everyday use. Not every day at work is the same, and not every day ends starts at 8 or ends at 5. Our customers are running a business, and sometimes, they need our help outside of the traditional “working” hours. One of the things I love about it though, is that it’s in these moments that true relationships are formed. ⠀ -----⠀ A few days ago, this customer invited me and my wife to his home for dinner. Sure, we talked about machines, but we talked about a lot more than work. I consider it an honor to work with and help support of our customers’ businesses. -----⠀ I hope you enjoyed seeing the products I get to work with every day, and liked an inside glimpse into an Account Manager’s role at RDO Equipment Co.
