Austin Team Welcomes Students, Parents for Future Tech Night

The Austin, TX, RDO Equipment Co. team and recruiters from Universal Technical Institute recently hosted students and parents at the Austin RDO store for a close-up look at an actual work environment that awaits prospective career-seekers in the diesel industry.

The main draw of the event was the service department and the career options and opportunities for Service Technicians. The RDO team members offered tours of the service department and Service Technicians’ work bays while sharing their stories and experiences in the industry. Attendees got a glimpse at the real-life connection between mechanical interests and hobbies and a fulfilling career.

Both the RDO team and UTI recruiters spoke to the plentiful opportunities in the diesel industry, including strong work demand, unique training experiences, and the wide variety of possible career paths. In fact, RDO team members in parts and sales also shared about their roles, providing insight into the full scope of the business and the array of options for students to pursue.

“I think a lot of the parents especially liked to see the variety of opportunities that are available,” said Jeff Spake, RDO Recruiting Program Manager. “We really got to show all aspects of the business and how each is dependent on the other.”

Jeff reflected on the event, noting the excitement of attendees and speakers alike as proof of its success.

“We learned a lot, and it was neat to see how the RDO team described the business and their passion for their work,” he said. “It was an awesome opportunity to serve as mentors to parents and students in one place as these career decisions are being considered.”
