2021 RDO Pink Hat Campaign Nets More Than $43,000 for Breast Cancer Patients

2021 RDO Pink Hat Campaign Nets More Than $43,000 for Breast Cancer Patients

17 Feb 2022 Read time: 1 min

The fifth annual RDO Pink Hat breast cancer fundraiser resulted in a total of $43,356 for the National Breast Cancer Foundation. RDO team members across the organization contributed to the cause through the purchase of special pink branded RDO hats during October. This year’s total was a nearly $2,000 increase from 2020 and is the second-largest total in the campaign’s five-year history.

The RDO Pink Hat campaign is a singular effort by team members across the geographic regions and different companies within the RDO network. A simple, yet prevalent example of the strength of that network is the ability for RDO team members to formally deliver the proceeds of the fundraiser in-person each year.

Only about 20 minutes separate the RDO Equipment Co. store in McKinney from the NBCF offices in Frisco. In all five years of the campaign, a group of team members has personally delivered the check, an event that’s become as much a part of the tradition as the pink hats themselves.

Patti Simmons, Sales Coordinator, is one of the team members who has been involved with both the check delivery and the McKinney store’s Pink Hat fundraising efforts over the last three years. She says it’s always gratifying to hand off the results of the RDO team’s efforts.

“It’s pretty fun when they come into the store,” she says of the NBCF team’s annual visit. “We’ve gotten to know them pretty well over the last few years. I know RDO’s Pink Hat effort is a big part of their overall campaign, and they’re definitely fans of the idea. I think they all have the full collection of pink RDO hats.”

Breast cancer survivor Janelle Hail founded NBCF in 1991 following her own treatment. Her goal was to support other women by filling the gaps in cancer care through education and patient support, and that commitment has continued to blossom to this day.

NBCF focuses on screening and diagnostics, education and outreach, and patient navigation and support services. In the last 10 years alone, NBCF has provided more than 192,000 mammograms, 858,000 patient navigation services, and 240,000 breast health education services to women in need.

In the five years since it began, RDO’s Pink Hat campaign has raised more than $210,000 in support of NBCF’s mission.
