Moorhead Team Welcomes Boy Scouts for Merit Badge Opportunity

Members of the Moorhead RDO Equipment Co. team welcomed a group of 13 Boy Scouts to the store for a special opportunity to earn a Farm Mechanics Merit Badge.

The day began with a classroom session, where team members illustrated the importance of safety in the shop before overviewing the basics of transmissions, diesel engines, and hydraulics.

The classroom time was followed by interactive stations in the service shop, offering the Scouts chances to take part in servicing a tractor and mower, including some hands-on time with a variety of tools.

“One of my favorite parts of this event was watching how passionate our RDO team was in engaging and teaching these young individuals throughout the day and seeing the smiles on the kids’ faces as they got to get their hands dirty and learn from our team,” said Matt Saar, Service Operations Manager.

Attendees called the use of technology in diagnosing, manipulating, and resolving issues with equipment one of the biggest highlights of the day. For Matt and the RDO team – Service Technicians Aaron Bubach, Colin Mack, and Christian Scheel; Service Intern Bridgette Clarey; Sales Associate Adam Meister; and Service Manager Pat Herman – the highlight was the opportunity itself.

“It was great to participate with young individuals from our community that came from all different backgrounds and to see their interest in the agricultural industry,” Matt said. “To be able to show them what we do, share our knowledge, and hopefully spark a passion for the industry was extremely gratifying.”
