The RDO Equipment Co. team in New Braunfels held a month-long food drive in the store in November, collecting roughly 900 pounds of food, along with some monetary donations, for the local food bank.
Seeing the continuing need for food bank services amid the pandemic, Parts Specialist Jason Zuniga proposed the food drive, a follow-up to the store’s support for both the San Antonio and New Braunfels food banks earlier in the year.
Office Administrator Cara Feeney said the team members in New Braunfels have a close connection to their community and a resulting sense of responsibility to help when there is a need. Combined with the store’s culture of teamwork and competitive nature, the food drive picked up steam fast.
“Once we made it a competition between departments, it really kicked into high gear,” Cara said. “Even customers were bringing donations to drop in the collection bins by our front doors.”
The team had hoped to volunteer in-person, handing out food at the food bank, but current conditions turned their focus to collecting donations. And the result, nearly a half-ton of supplies delivered in two pick-up truck loads, is no compromise.
“The spirit of giving and teamwork is contagious at this store,” Cara said. “It is something we are all very proud of here at RDO in New Braunfels.”
