Pflugerville Team Members Trade Heavy Equipment for Rakes, Shovels and Community Support

3 Aug 2021 Read time: 2 min

A group of RDO Equipment Co. team members at the Pflugerville, TX store rolled up their sleeves and spent a July day helping to improve their community.

The team was seeking ways to do their part in addressing the rising level of homelessness in Austin and the surrounding area when they came across Community First! Village, a 51-acre community in Austin, consisting of more than 500 affordable, permanent homes for area residents working their way out of chronic homelessness.

Ten team members spent the day on landscaping duty: pulling weeds, digging ditches, and laying pavers, all to help improve Community First! Village for its residents. The opportunity not only aligned with RDO’s Core Values and stakeholders, but at the end of the day, it was one the group found impactful for many more reasons.

“Everyone who works and lives there are wonderful people who truly care for their community,” said Ashley Wilson, Pflugerville Receptionist. “We witnessed residents showing so much love and respect for their property, for other residents, and the simple things in life that are typically overlooked.”

The sense of community was an inspiration for the volunteers, who quickly realized the value of their efforts.

“I felt accomplished with what I was able to contribute,” said Kara Auten, Rental Technician. “It meant that I was able to get out of my comfort zone and help those who need it.”

Ultimately, the team remarked on the rewarding chance to get involved with a project that has a genuine impact for local people.

“This cause directly helps those in our community who are less fortunate than many of us,” said Rob Duckett, Parts Manager. “They put us to work. We were all exhausted at the end of the day, but it was worth it to be able to contribute our time and energy and see our team out there working together for this cause. It makes me proud to be part of the RDO family.”
