What's the Process of Buying a Compact Utility Tractor From RDO Equipment Co.?

22 Jul 2025 Author: Alex Mitchell

Compact utility tractors (CUTs) are built to work. Whether you’re maintaining your own land or expanding your company’s fleet, a John Deere compact tractor brings power and versatility to the job.

With more than 20 models and dozens of compatible attachments, a compact tractor can handle everything from seeding and spraying to trenching, mowing, and snow removal. It’s a single tool that does the work of many — and keeps going.

But choosing the right machine can feel overwhelming, especially if it’s your first time.

That’s where we come in. RDO Equipment Co. has the tools and expertise to help you find the perfect machine for your needs and the systems to support you from the moment you implement it to the moment you retire it.

Here’s what to expect when you’re ready to buy a CUT from RDO.

Choosing Your Compact Utility Tractor

With dozens of models and endless ways to put them to work, choosing the right compact utility tractor (CUT) can feel like a big decision, but you don’t have to make it alone.

Our team is here to help. Start by thinking about what you’ll use your tractor for—mowing, digging, hauling, snow removal, or all of the above. If you want to dive deeper, there are plenty of helpful videos, articles, and reviews online (including this one that breaks down three key considerations when choosing a CUT). But you can always come straight to us.

At RDO, our account managers are trained to know each machine inside and out—how it works, what it’s best for, and who it’s built for.

When you’re ready to talk, we’ll walk through a few key questions:

  • Will you use it for business or personal work?
  • How large is the property you’ll be working on?
  • What kind of terrain do you deal with?
  • How often — and how fast — do you need to use it?
  • What tasks do you want to get done?
  • Are there specific attachments you already have in mind?
  • What’s your general budget?

Your answers help us match you with the right machine so that your tractor works as hard as you do.

For example, if you need a solution to mow your one-acre property, do some light forestry work and move the occasional heavy load, a 1-2 Series CUT could be perfect.

However, if you’ll be using it to tend to animals, manage a food plot and maintain several acres, a larger frame tractor with more horsepower will be a better fit.

Buying From RDO Equipment Co.: Where to Start

You can start the process of purchasing a CUT from RDO in a couple of ways. The first is online.

Shopping For a CUT from RDO Online

Our website allows you to browse 1, 2, 3 and 4 Series inventory to find the CUT you’re interested in.

Each product listing provides equipment specifications, pictures and a starting price range to give you a general idea of the machine's cost (which varies based on several factors).

For more exact product pricing, use this Tractor Builder tool (found on each product listing).

When you’re ready, your next step in purchasing online is to request a quote for the CUT you’re interested in.

Here’s a breakdown of this process:

  • You submit the new equipment request a quote form (including your name, phone number, email, location and product interest).
  • A business development representative receives that notification and will contact you within a matter of hours (during regular business hours) to discuss your request.
  • In this conversation, they’ll verify which product you’re interested in and where you’re located. After that, your information will be passed along to a local sales professional to get your quote.

This entire process should take less than two days.

Buying a CUT From RDO In-Person

If possible, visit your closest RDO store when looking for a compact utility tractor. You can get your hands on the machine, walk around it, sit on it, and operate it—we love letting customers take test drives.

Purchasing from RDO is easy.

When you arrive at the store, a salesperson greets you, asks about your needs, and walks you around the lot or showroom to introduce your options.

You can also explore the attachments for each machine to decide which you need. The most common attachments we sell for our CUTs equipment are the loader, mower deck, snow blower and pallet forks.

When you’re ready, the purchase process can begin.

Purchase and Delivery Process

When buying a CUT from RDO, you can use the combination of cash and financing that makes sense for you.

Roughly 9 out of 10 people use financing in some form, whether with 20 percent, 40 percent, 50 percent or even 0 percent down.

There are often deals on equipment financing, such as 0 percent for 60 months. Here are our current offers

If you’re interested, the process of receiving financing for your equipment is straightforward.

All equipment financing for individuals is done through John Deere Financial. If you're a business, there may be another lender.

You’ll work with your point of contact (salesperson) to fill out the appropriate credit application for your situation. You can also do this online on your own.

Once your application is complete, it usually takes less than one hour to get you approved for financing.

At this point, you’re ready to purchase.

After your order is placed, it can take anywhere from a couple of days to a week for your equipment to undergo the pre-delivery inspection and be ready for you.

Once it's ready, we can deliver it to your location or you can pick it up. Delivery is free within a certain area of the store. However, there will be a fee at a certain distance, which is often anything outside of 15 miles.

On delivery day, your RDO representative will come out to your location to do a start-up and product overview with you. If you want, you’ll also get some operator instructions at this time — how to connect and use attachments, how to configure the machine, how to navigate the operator station, etc.

How Does the Product Warranty Work?

For our CUTs equipment, you’ll receive a standard 2-year, 2,000-hour warranty and a 72-month powertrain warranty.

If you would like additional coverage, you can opt for an extended PowerGard warranty. This will extend your parts and labor coverage by four years. This warranty can be added at any time while your standard warranty is in effect, not just at purchase.

After-Sales Support

When you purchase a machine from RDO Equipment Co., you’re entering a partnership. As an RDO customer, you’ll get all of the support you need to accomplish your goals. When you buy the best, you expect the best.

This support will take multiple forms.

You will get regular service reminders when maintenance is due and priority access to parts, equipment and attachments

Our mobile maintenance service, where talented technicians will come out to you to perform maintenance at regular intervals, is also an option in select locations.

Of course, you can always call our team (888-976-0871) for support whenever you need it.
