New John Deere 230 P-Tier Excavator: Tech, Safety & Performance

In this episode of The Track, RDO Equipment Co. Regional Sales Manager Scott Weness talks with Steve Strandlund Jr. of DW Companies about his experience test piloting the new John Deere 230 P‑Tier Excavator.

As part of the pilot program, DW Companies operators used the machine on real job sites while sharing feedback directly with teams at John Deere and RDO.

Steve explains how the machine performed in daily work and which features stood out most during the testing process:

• Easy-to-use technology: The updated display and built-in 2D and 3D grade control made it easier for crews to dig accurately without a steep learning curve.
• Enhanced safety tools: Camera systems, geofencing and virtual limits help operators stay aware of their surroundings, especially on tight sites with multiple crews working nearby.
• Faster troubleshooting: Remote display access allows the dealer team to see what’s happening in the machine and sometimes resolve problems without sending a technician onsite.
• Versatile operation: From basement excavation to municipal pipe repairs and commercial projects, the 230 handled a wide range of tasks and attachments.
• Direct operator feedback: Operators could submit feedback from the cab using a QR code, allowing the Deere team to quickly review and respond.
