RDO Equipment Co. Stores Host Day of Play Events

Posted on

Imagine a child getting an up-close view of the big green equipment he sees in the fields near his home. Think of the fun kids have spending a summer afternoon outside surrounded by John Deere toys, yard games, and other activities. Picture people, of all ages, gathered at one location for food, fun, and a sense of community. That’s just what happens at RDO Equipment Co.’s Day of Play events.

Every summer, several RDO Equipment Co. locations in the Midwest region set aside one day and transform their store from a place of business to a place of play. In partnership with John Deere, these Day of Play events offer families a fun afternoon of activities, while allowing RDO Equipment Co. to open its doors and engage with all members of the community. This year, stores in Hawley and Moorhead, MN; Casselton and Lisbon, ND; and Aberdeen, SD held Day of Play events throughout June and July.

One of the biggest draws of Day of Play is the chance for kids to see and learn about the large machines offered by RDO Equipment Co. and John Deere. Stores also offer various activities and games, and food for Day of Play attendees, all free of charge.

RDO Equipment Co. in Moorhead is one store that has been hosting Day of Play events for years. Mike Wollschlager, Aftermarket Manager, recalls why the store has enjoyed hosting the event every year, “It’s a great way for families to spend a nice summer day, and it’s fun for our team to interact with kids and members of the community we might not otherwise get to meet.”

Other stores that have been involved in Day of Play for years have found new ways to further involve the community. The Aberdeen store is one of them and, according to Brian Bjordal, Store Manager, partnering with other local organizations makes the event better every year.

“It’s great to see our local Boys and Girls Club, the police and fire departments, National Guard, and Ken’s SuperFair Foods continue to support the event each year, and make it something fun for the entire community,” he said.

Conversely, the Lisbon store held its first Day of Play event this year. When asked what sparked the Lisbon team’s decision to host Day of Play, Wylie Geyer, Store Manager, said, “We saw the fun and sense of community Day of Play brought to other stores in our region.”

In efforts to offer more community members the opportunity to hear about and attend Day of Play, both Casselton and Hawley held their events in conjunction with annual city-wide celebrations. The Casselton store hosted Day of Play during Casselton Summerfest, while the Hawley store’s event took place during the Hawley Rodeo weekend.

Nice summer weather, smiling faces, and hundreds of community members combined to make this year’s RDO Equipment Co. Day of Play events a success. Day of Play events will again be held at various RDO Equipment Co. stores next summer. Watch the website and Facebook page for event announcements.
