Product Training Highlights Iconic RDO Vermeer Customer

Product Training Highlights Iconic RDO Vermeer Customer

For some RDO Equipment Co. team members, working directly with customers holds a world of benefits, not the least of which is the opportunity to work in unique, and occasionally, culturally significant, locations.

Rancho Dominguez Account Manager Lance Barker recently conducted a training on two new Vermeer chippers for the grounds crew at the iconic Getty Center in Los Angeles. The two-hour training, presented in both English and Spanish, was attended by around 50 members of the crew. Topics included everything from safety to operations and maintenance, followed by a Q&A session aimed at getting the most out of the machines.

The Getty is known for its intricate landscaping and architecture and is home to an eclectic art collection from around the world, ranging in creation from the Neolithic period to the modern day. The museum draws an estimated 1.8 million visitors per year.

The Getty made headlines recently as wildfires approached the grounds and the invaluable contents within. The museum was left unscathed, thanks in large part to the $1 billion complex’s network of fire protection elements, including thick stone walls, hermetically sealed galleries, and a recycled air system.

One of the grounds crew’s chippers was not so lucky and was destroyed by the encroaching flames. Considering what was at stake, it was a small loss; the grounds crew had been preparing to replace their chippers prior to the fires. But for Lance, it meant a chance to help the crew get running again and to connect with a truly unique customer.

“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get access to their grounds in that way and to meet the people behind the scenes who make it happen and keep the place in such pristine condition,” he commented.
